A first birthday is an emotional milestone for Mama, Daddy and babe and it’s a time you’ll want to remember! There are so many great ideas out there for insanely cute cake smash themes, props and styles. You name it...I am probably up for the challenge!
- Cake Smash Sessions generally last about 1 hour.
- Formal Portraits: We will start the session in their "Sunday Best" and capture some smiles on cute props.
- Cake Smash: We will then change babe into something more comfortable and bring in the cake.
- Splash Portraits: Let's clean up but keep the fun going

A cake smash session is held around a baby’s first birthday. They are given a cake with the freedom to eat or "smash" it however they please.
For some babies, this is their first taste of sugar, so it’s a fun time to capture and celebrate their birthday. Some families do an extensive theme--with props and outfits to match an idea or color scheme, while others go with a minimalist approach with the baby, cake, and a few props or balloons.
What is a Cake SMash?
A lot of parents choose to schedule the session very close to baby’s first birthday. However, if you want plan to use the photos for a party--you you will need to schedule the session in advance to allow time to receive your gallery which would be at least 2-3 weeks.
When is the best time to schedule?
The session generally last 1-1.5 hours. We start with with formal milestone portraits, followed by the cake "smash" portion and we end the session with a "splash" bathtub session.
how long does the session last?
My studio is located in downtown Sun Prairie, WI
where does the cake smash session take place?
Yes, I will take portrait type photos and have an entire client closet devoted to their little selves that you are free to use for their session. We typically will do about 2-3 outfit changes during the session.

Complete styling, professionally-designed cake, smash wardrobe, mini portrait session, "smash" session and a bubble bath "splash" session (1st year session only), 30 professionally retouched digital images with a print release.
